El Scorcio. Not a baseball city! You must be joking. The highest attendance in major league baseball and the highest average attendance. I went to about 15 games this year and believe me this is a baseball city.

Whoever has the best record during the regular season.

Re: World Series
What determines home advantage ?

7 games 3 played in LA 4 played in Boston

Is it season's averages ?

Re: World Series
Gloves in baseball- I believe the ball is hit with much more velocity and would be incredibly difficult to catch or avoid injury when catching.

Passing in American football- they hit much harder often from a blind side and with less rules- they also use the pads as hitting weapons. They are there to prevent serious injuries. The rate of serious injuries in NFL is ridiculously high as it is. (Average career length is 2 years) Without pads it would be far far worse.

Re: World Series
What is it with American sports and extra aids to help them?
Outfielders have webbed gloves so should never dropped a ball hit high .... unlike cricketers in the outfield who catch in their bare hands
And NFL players are padded all over and wear helmets ... unlike rugby players

Re: World Series
Exactly.

The team with the best record of the two over 162 games has earned the right throughout the course of the season to have the advantage in the World Series.

Fairest way of doing it, in my opinion.

And anyway it doesn't neccesarily follow they will win- form is really important in baseball. Almost every team has slumps and peaks (usually more than one of each) through a season. If the 'away' team in a series is on a hot streak, the pitchers are throwing well and the batters are hitting well, then home advantage can actually count for very little.

It's also about cleverly managing your pitching rotation and matchups, and batting line up.

Re: World Series
CF
Then the disadvantaged team should have upped their game in the regular season to get a better record. All clubs know the while at the start and I have never heard any grumbles especially since it is the team with the best record over the season that gets that advantage.
I know Minnesota won all the home games and lost the away when FC was there but I bet it has hardly ever happened.
I have no ideas how they arrange the fixtures during the season especially now there are inter league games but everyone doesn't play each other the same amount of times. The Yankees will play the Mets and the Red Sox will play the Rockies during the season for a few games but I don't think the Yankees will play the Rockies, if at all as many times or the Red Sox play the Mets as many times

Re: World Series
Yeah but one team still gets 4 home games out of 7 so a clear advantage

It's not unfair. The advantage of staging game 7 is balanced out by the disadvantage of maybe not getting the chance to stage game six.

That's why they go hh aaa hh. Or vice versa.

Re: World Series
crystal, watch the documentary 'The Battered Bastards Of Baseball' on netflix. it's about Kurt Russell's old man buying a down and out minor league team and transforming them in to contenders with a team of misfits, rejects and nutcases. it's a brilliant film

Don't think LA is really a baseball city.

I believe it's all about basketball out there.

Out in LA at the mo...to be fair you would hardly know that the Dodgers was in the WS....totally different to when we was in Tampa a few years back when they reached the Stanley Cup...place came to a standstill...

Re: World Series
Wouldn't work in the US. The country is far too big.

It was a bit shit that homefield advantage was decided by who won the all star game.

As it should be, the team with the best record gets homefield advantage. Something earned over the course of the season.

It does seem unfair but it's always been that way

crystal falace 2:30 Thu Oct 25
Re: World Series
Seems like game 7 of any world series if it get's that far should be at a neutral stadium.

Seems unfair for one team to have 4 games at home
